Will Checking Your Own FICO score Hurt it?

One piece of the formula of your FICO score is inquiries.  This is how many times you credit report has been request to be viewed.  The common thought that happens is when you check your FICO score it considered an inquiry and will count against your FICO score.

Well the folks over at Fair Isaac recognize that consumers need to monitor thier credit standing and actually don’t count this as a negative factor in a FICO score.  You need to watch your credit and check on a regular basis this shows you are a responsible consumer.  If you are looking to improve it actually give you a sense of accomplishment to see you FICO score go up.  So check it.

The types of inquiries that will hut your FICO score
will be ones done by creditors.  This is what is known as a hard inquiry.  You should only have these done when you are applying for new credit.  Don’t just as your lender to check you FICO score do your self.
